There will be a massive deployment of riot policemen and other security agencies at the main entry and exit into the National Assembly as legislators resume on Tuesday.
This, our correspondent gathered in Abuja, on Saturday, was to forestall opposing groups of protesters from causing a breach of the peace.
A security operative, who pleaded anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to the media, described the deployment as “standard procedure” usually put in motion each time legislators resume from recess.
The source said, “It is usual that each time the National Assembly is resuming, we increase security presence.
Reacting to the development, the Executive Director of the Civil Societies Legislative and Advocacy Centre, Auwal Rafsanjani, in a telephone interview said.
“The National Assembly remains one of the major symbols of democracy anywhere and the right of Nigerians to peaceful assembly especially on issues of their constitutionally guaranteed welfare cannot be denied using any guise.”
